- The Irish physicist George Francis FitzGerald (1851–1901) taught at Trinity College in Dublin. He worked on electromagnetic theory and is mainly remembered for the Lorentz-FitzGerald contraction, which became an important consequence of Einstein’s special theory of relativity.
