The Scottish physicist and mathematician Andrew Gray (1847–1925) studied in Glasgow under Lord Kelvin. In 1884 he was appointed Professor of Physics at University College of North Wales, where he remained in Bangor until he returned to Glasgow in 1899 to succeed Kelvin as Professor of Natural Philosophy.
